Thames Valley students to compete in Special Olympics

Thames Valley District School Board students are set to enjoy athletic events, fellowship, and fun at the annual Special Olympics.

Elementary students will compete on Tuesday, June 11 and secondary students will compete on Wednesday, June 12.  Rain dates are June 13 and 14.  

Both days will take place at Western Alumni Stadium and begin with opening ceremonies at 10:15 a.m. followed by track and field events and other special activities.

More than 1,400 students and 1,300 peer coaches from 74 elementary and 26 secondary schools across the board are registered for the Special Olympics.

Events include:

  • Wheelchair races
  • Track races (50m, 80m and 200m)
  • Field events such standing jump (elementary only), long jump, softball throw and shot put (secondary only)
  • Special events (a variety games for athletes with varying abilities)

When: 

  • Elementary: June 11, 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
  • Secondary: June 12, 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Rain dates: June 13 and 14
